Every year, the LA Times Festival of Books brings together something pretty special: stories, authors, educators and families, all in one place.
This year, Epic will be right in the middle of it.
From April 18–19 at the University of Southern California, we’re proud to sponsor the Children’s Stage and host a full weekend of reading-focused activities designed to spark curiosity and bring stories to life for kids of all ages.
Where Stories Come to Life

If you’ve ever watched a child meet their favorite book character, you know how quickly reading can shift from something they have to do to something they genuinely enjoy. That’s the energy we’re bringing to the festival!
Epic will host two live sessions on the Children’s Stage:
- Saturday, April 18 (11:50 AM – 12:15 PM)
Join beloved Biscuit author Alyssa Satin Capucilli and illustrator Pat Schories for a joyful storytime, followed by a live drawing that shows how Biscuit comes to life on the page. - Sunday, April 19 (11:50 AM – 12:15 PM)
Bestselling author Andrea Beaty will share the story behind the Questioneers series—which includes favorites like Ada Twist and Rosie Revere—and how curiosity and creativity shape her characters. There’ll also be an audience Q&A moderated by Cat Ninja author Matt Cody!
Stop by the Epic Booth
Beyond the stage, you’ll find us in the Red Zone at Booth 609.
Families can:
- Explore Epic on iPads
- Join arts and crafts activities
- Spin for prizes and giveaways
- Pick up books and connect with the team
- Meet Cat Ninja!
We’ll also be hosting a Meet and Greet and book signing with Cat Ninja author, Matt Cody on Saturday at 1 PM.
Why It Matters
Events like the Festival of Books remind us that reading doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens in conversations. In the excitement of seeing a story unfold, on stage, on a page or in a child’s imagination.
At Epic, that’s what we’re always working toward. Not just access to books, but moments that help kids want to keep reading.
If you’re attending the festival, we’d love to see you there! Stop by, say hello and let your kids explore what catches their interest. Get your free tickets and check out the schedule of events on the LA Times Festival of Books website.
