What’s National Reading Month?
Kicking off with Read Across America Day on March 2, National Reading Month is a month-long celebration of literacy. The goal is to inspire everyone to pick up a book and cultivate a lifelong love of reading——something very close to our hearts as the world’s largest digital library for kids!
We want kids to experience the joy of reading and all the life-changing benefits that come along with it—benefits that extend beyond academic success. A recent study found that reading for pleasure early in life correlated with better test scores but also increased mental health and sleep duration. And we know from our own research that reading promotes confidence, creativity and curiosity in kids.
Let’s face it: Reading is practically a superpower! We’ll take any excuse to talk about it even more than we normally do.
How is Epic celebrating National Reading Month?
So what do we have in store for National Reading Month? Books, books and more books! Especially the ones we know that you and your kids love. That’s why we’ve pulled together some of our biggest and best hits all in one place.
We also want to share tips around how to get your kids engaged in reading. Some unique ways we’ve found include:
- Read early and often: Don’t wait until bedtime
- Take turns: If you have a child who’s old enough to read, trade off.
- Let them pick the books
- Change up where you read
- Don’t focus on finishing
