The Promise — page 3 — In a village called Al Azan in the golden land of Morocco there lived two friends One was Jewish and he was named Jacob The other was Muslim and he was named Hassan The joyful shouts and songs of Jacob and Hassan lifted the hearts of all the villagers in Al Azan

The Promise — page 4 — Every weekday morning Hassan helped his parents feed the goats Then he washed carefully and went to the maktab school at the little village mosque Every weekday morning Jacob helped his parents feed the chickens Then he washed carefully and crossed the street to study with the rabbi in the tiny village synagogue
