MINERALS FACT FILE ROCKS Minerals are natural solid chemicals that form as crystals Rocks are hard natural materials Rocks are made up of one or more minerals Rocks and minerals are both usually solid Rocks and minerals are not alive and have never been alive COMMON ROCKS SANDSTONE GRANITE FLINT PUMICE ROCK STARS People who study rocks minerals and the Earth are called geologists They study our planet’s history through the rocks it is made of and study landslides earthquakes and volcanoes They can study metals and ores or look at natural materials of the Earth such as coal and oil Some try to understand the changes that the land weather and climate have been through by studying the rocks left behind CHALK MARBLE COAL 7
