SOLICITOR MCFARLANE SUSPECTED IN MURDER OF NORWOOD BUILDER AMADA The murder suspect McFarlane THE MURDER WEAPON A walking cane belonging to McFarlane Norwood Builder Oldacre Late last night or early this morning a serious crime occurred at Lower Norwood Mr Jonas Oldacre a well known resident of that suburb has disappeared Mr Oldacre is a bachelor 52 years of age and lives in Deep Dene House He had the reputation of being wealthy eccentric and withdrawn from the business At 12 o clock last night a small timber yard at the back of Deep Dene House caught fire The engines soon arrived but the dry wood burned until the stack had been entirely consumed The incident appeared to be an accident but fresh evidence seems to point to a serious crime When the master of the establishment was not on the scene a search followed which showed that he had disappeared Examination of his room revealed that the bed had not been slept in A safe stood open papers were scattered about and there were signs of a struggle Traces of blood were found in the room as well as on an oak walking stick The stick found has been identified as the property of a late night visitor a young London solicitor named John Hector McFarlane junior partner of Graham and McFarlane The police believe that they have evidence of motive for the crime
