American Holidays: Labor Day

American Holidays: Labor Day

Labor Day first became a federal holiday in the United States in 1894, when it came into affect to commemorate workers who fought for fair wages and better working conditions. Today, this patriotic holiday is celebrated with parades and picnics and is often used to mark the end of the summer. This book employs photographs and accessible text to describe the origins of the holiday and to demonstrate the many ways that people celebrate it.
