The Real Violet Jessop — page 3 — CHAPTER 2 Survivor from the Start Jessop’s parents were William and Katherine William was a sheep farmer Katherine’s family had a photography business William and Katherine were married in 1886 They were Irish immigrants Immigrants are people who move from another country Things weren’t good in Ireland People were hungry They didn’t have jobs They weren’t treated fairly Many Irish people moved to the Americas That’s how they survived William moved the family to Argentina He got a job as a manager of a railroad station Jessop was born on October 2 1887 She was born in the Pampas Pampas are plains They’re flat lands without trees 6
