Real or Fake? 2 — page 9 — BEAVERS PARACHUTE INTO IDAHO REAL OR FAKE Look up in the sky It's a bird It's a plane It's a beaver Believe it or not back in the mid 1900s a bunch of beavers parachuted into a forest in central Idaho U.S.A. These rodents weren't daredevils Rather wildlife authorities sent the beavers skydiving because they were causing problems in their original homes elsewhere in the state The authorities wanted to send the animals to a remote wilderness area But getting there by foot or car proved problematic So someone suggested parachuting the animals in Pairs of beavers of equal size and weight were put in wooden boxes with holes drilled into them Then the boxes were wound with rope in a way that ensured they would easily open upon landing Last but not least parachutes were attached to the boxes Each flight dropped 10 boxes or 20 beavers into the wilderness area Amazingly they landed safely
