UTAH THE BEEHIVE STATE Utah is a desert gem set in the American West It is a land of much variety There are the soaring snowcapped mountains of the Wasatch Range with world class ski runs Dense pine filled forests and whitewater river rapids contrast sharply with arid wilderness lands and a salty inland sea Rugged sun beaten deserts are so barren it's like being transported to the moon In the red rock country of southern Utah deep canyons and soaring arches litter the landscape Utah's first white settlers were Mormon pioneers Even today more than half of the state's citizens belong to the Mormon Church called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints The church continues to be a big part of life in the state As everybody knows bees are the hardest working members of the animal kingdom Utah is nicknamed The Beehive State to remind people how hard the early settlers had to work to make Utah the great state it is today A lone car drives across Utah's desolate Bonneville Salt Flats UTAH
