OREGON GEOGRAPHY Oregon Oregon is in the Pacific Northwest region It is the ninth largest state in the United States Its land and water area covers 98 379 square miles 254 800 sq km To the north is the state of Washington To the east is Idaho Oregon shares its southern border with Nevada and California The entire western side of the state borders the Pacific Ocean Oregon's land is unique and complex The terrain has been formed by many overlapping forces including glaciers river erosion and even volcanoes The Coast Range is in western Oregon It runs north and south along most of the Pacific Ocean coast There are sandy beaches rocky cliffs and forests Moving inland the region rises sharply to include low mountains with many small lakes South of the Coast Range in the southwestern corner of Oregon are the Klamath Mountains Just east of these rugged peaks is the fertile Rogue Valley Yaquina Head Lighthouse stands on Oregon's rocky coast OREGON
