The princess was named Snow White Which sounds like a rather ridiculous name until you learn that many many people of this kingdom were named after the color of things And while it was a rather peculiar custom in this kingdom it was no stranger to be a girl named Rose Red than to be a cow named Betsy or a dog named Spot or a King of England named Henry The evil Queen didn't like Snow White because when Snow White came of age she would become the next queen So the evil Queen had Snow White do the hardest chores in the castle scouring pots scrubbing flagstones polishing armor sharpening sword blades feeding the manticore in the cellar grinding up dragon scales and cleaning the Queen's bedroom Snow White slept in the steamy scullery in the summer and in the drafty cold tower in the winter The evil Queen gave her hard chores in hope that Snow White would fall terribly ill or even run away from home And as Snow White grew the Queen's chores became harder Snow White the evil Queen's icy voice would slice through the castle Why is there dirt in the garden Clean it up now And Snow White would say Of course Your Highness And then she would do her best to clean up all the dirt Unfortunately for the evil Queen all the chores did not make Snow White sick To the contrary she was one of the healthiest strongest children in the kingdom And as for running away Snow White enjoyed cleaning too much to want to leave
