From Here to There: Designing Transportation — page 1 — GETTING FROM HERE TO THERE Bipedalism is the earliest form of transportation The fi rst humans were mostly nomadic traveling on foot in search of food and good weather Foot coverings snowshoes and skis made it easier to travel longer distances As growing populations needed more and more food to survive people ventured even farther One day someone must have wondered if a river might provide a faster way to travel long distances That’s how the fi rst boat was created There was a need and someone came up with a solution The Pesse canoe was constructed more than 10,000 years ago It is the oldest known boat in the world 4
