Missouri's largest snake is the bull snake. Light and dark bands on the tail are possible. A dark line angling from the eye down to the jaw is common, as are black bars along the upper lip. The belly is yellow or cream in colour, with checkering of square or rectangular dark brown or black spots down the sides. When threatened, the bull snake, known for its ferocity, becomes extremely defensive.
