Anthony — page 4 — 7 A CHAMPION FOR ALL RIGHTS The word suffrage pronounced SUF-fridge comes from the Latin word suffragium which means vote Quick Fact African American Rights Susan B Anthony did not only care about the rights of women She also fought to end slavery in America People who worked to end slavery were called abolitionists Anthony was a part of a major abolitionist group She believed that African Americans should be free She also thought they should have the right to vote During Anthony’s life African Americans and women won many rights in the United States Other changes came after she died However people continue to work for equality today
