In today\u2019s increasingly global society, it\u2019s more important than ever to show kids that they\u2019re part of something bigger than themselves, and how to connect with and learn from one another. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To help educators foster this sense of connectedness with their students, teacher and author Pernille Ripp inspired her to start The Global Read Aloud<\/a> (GRA) in 2010. Since then the project has grown to spark a movement on a global scale\u2014the event now reaches millions of children and teachers in over 86 countries<\/a>. More than 4,000,000 students have participated, in the process making connections with one another in creative and powerful ways. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each year, educators choose from a list of preselected books or series of books to read aloud to students. Over the course of six weeks, participants read the same books, using tools like Twitter, Facebook Groups, Skype<\/a>, Flipgrid<\/a>, Padlet<\/a> and more to connect to other classrooms in their grade level around the world. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

According to Ms. Ripp on the GRA blog, the event is \u201cmeant to make the world a little smaller, to open our eyes to the rest of the world and look at all of our shared experiences.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
