We Heard You. Epic School Supports Remote Learning This Year.
NOTE: the following information has changed since publication: Epic School is now available from 7 am to 4 pm.
No matter what Back to School may look like this year, Epic School is here to support you. Now, through June 2021, your students can log in to Epic School from anywhere during school hours—Monday through Friday, 6 am to 3 pm (local time)—using just your class code. You can fuel students’ curiosity and boost their reading confidence in class or at home, with free access to thousands of high-quality books loved by students grade 6 and under, including tons of grade-specific, high-interest topics across languages and genres.
What Is Epic School?
As you get ready to rock that roster, we’re rockin’ a new name.
Epic School is the same, free-for-educators experience you know and love, but even better! With our newly designed educator dashboard—complete with enhanced roster controls and brand new Daily Reading and Quizzes sections, Epic School gives you more control to personalize each student’s reading experience while tracking their progress. Whether you’re using Epic School for independent reading, research or an exploration to spark interest in a topic, Epic School will help you find that perfect title.
But wait, there’s more!
Epic Free: Your After-School Companion
Students now have access to Epic Free after 3 pm (local time), Monday through Friday, and on weekends for up to 2 hours every week. The time limit resets every Monday so that students can enjoy after-school reading every week and fulfill their daily 20-minute reading goals. We’ve also included a better way to search, filter and assign that perfect book from the Epic Free library that you know your students will love.
What’s Included in Epic Free?
Although it doesn’t include as many books as Epic School or our subscription plan, Epic Unlimited, Epic Free still offers thousands of high-quality fiction and nonfiction books, including Read-To-Me’s. Note that Epic Free doesn’t include videos or audiobooks.
Invite Families Today: 3 Easy Ways to Start
Helping families get started on Epic School is easy. We’ve created 3 simple ways for you to invite them from your educator dashboard.
Step 1: Log into your educator account on your laptop, desktop or tablet. Be sure to log in using a web browser, since inviting families isn’t currently supported on mobile or through the app. Go to www.getepic.com/educators and click on “Log In.” If you’re new to Epic School, create a new free account by clicking on the “Join Epic School” button.
Step 2: From your dashboard, click on “Invite Families” under the Remote Learning Made Easy section.
Step 3: You will then be prompted to invite families to Epic (see below) via 3 ways: sending an email, printing a flyer or sending a message through Remind or Class Dojo. Pick your preferred format!
To Invite Via Email
To send instructions via email, enter your students’ parent emails after clicking on <Add Email>. Once you click on <Send Email>, parents will receive detailed instructions via email, asking them to connect to your class. Once a parent accepts your invitation to connect to class, you will see the word “Enabled!” underneath the Parent Connect Status column on your roster.
Can I Assign Books for My Students to Access After 3 PM?
Absolutely. When searching for topics or books to assign, simply set your “After School” filter to “Yes.” That way, your results will only display Epic Free books that are available to all students for free after 3 pm local time.
That’s it! Wherever, and however, you and your students use Epic this year, we hope it makes reading fun and exciting for everyone.
