Shi-shi-etko

Shi Shi Etko Book is a heartbreaking story about a young girl's final four days at home before being forced to leave her family. It focuses on the forced separation from her family at one of Canada's Native children's residential schools. However, Shi Shi Etko Kids Book doesn't focus on the residential school experience, instead situates her narrative in the days preceding the departure. It emphasizes the family love and warmth that surround Shi-Shi-etko as well as the heartbreaking nature of her separation. Shi Shi Etko Kids Book, with its poignant narrative and dream-like illustrations, would be an excellent springboard for elementary teachers looking to explain this difficult aspect of indigenous experience to young students. Although set in Canada, Shi Shi Etko Kids Book is equally relevant in other countries where similar institutions prevailed.
