INDIANA GEOGRAPHY Indiana Indiana is the 38th largest state It is in the upper Midwest region of the United States The state is divided into two geographical parts These include the northern two thirds and the southern third of the state The northern region is mostly flat In the south there are some rugged hills During the last Ice Age starting about 50 000 years ago glaciers covered most of today's northern and central Indiana When they finally melted they left behind a mostly flat landscape After centuries of grasslands growing and dying the soil became enriched Indiana has some of the most fertile soil in the country Today the northern two thirds of Indiana is mostly flat fertile farmland INDIANA 8
