Mother Teresa

This story is of Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, the world’s greatest humanitarian also known as Mother Teresa. At the age of 12, she sensed a deep call from God. She knew she had to be a missionary in order to spread Christ's love. She left her maternal home in Skopje at the age of eighteen to join the Sisters of Loreto, an Irish community of nuns with missions in India. The suffering and poverty she witnessed outside the convent walls left such an indelible impression on her that in 1948 she received permission from her superiors to leave the convent school and devote herself to working among the poorest of the poor in Calcutta's slums. Through her work she went on to win many accolades like the Pope John XXIII Peace Prize (1971) and the Nehru Prize for her promotion of international peace. This Mother Teresa book is a perfect example for kids to learn how empathy and love can change the world.
